The P90X/Insanity Challenge: Day 1

By Nathan On January 2, 2010 Under My P90X Journey

In mid-October of 2009  I completed a round of P90X. I started around 195lbs. and ended up at 172 lbs in only 90 days. It took a lot of hard work and discipling but I am a better person for it and I am a true believer in all Beachbody products. After my round of P90X I took a week or so off and began the Insanity workouts. I only did the Inanity workouts 4 days a week but I could not believe the cardio workout I got. The P90X focuses on both strength and cardio improvement. Insanity improves the entire body but through cardio workouts only. With each Insanity workout my heart rate was between 150 and 180 for 30 straight minutes whereas with the P90X my heart rate was between a20 and 140 for the strength workouts.

So I have decided to combine both killer workouts systems and see what happens. I will be doing the “Classic” P90X workouts but substituting in the Insanity workouts for the P90X cardio workouts (plyos, Kempo X, Yoga, and cardio x). I will be burning around 3,000 calories per day and consuming around 2,500 calories per day. I should lose around a pound of fat per week.

I will be briefly reflecting upon each workout and the food I ate for that day. Be sure to stay in touch so that you can see the final results.

Day 1:

P90X: Chest and Back

This was a humbling workout. My reps on both my pull-ups and push-ups dropped by about 35-40% OUCH!!! I expected my reps to drop off a bit but I wasn’t expecting this. Nonetheless I fell great for having begun what I know will be a challenging experience.

Breakfast: 1 Cup of oatmeal  240 Calories

9 oz.  of Skim Milk 150 Calories

Snack:         1 Cup of Pretzels  100 Calories

Lunch :  Chocolate Shakeology 140 Calories

9 oz. of Skim Milk          150 Calories

Snack: Beachbody Protein Bar 240 Calories

Dinner:  Chicken/Rice/Whole Wheat Tortilla  700 Calories

Total Calories For the Day: 1720 Calories

This was way too low. I will have  to consult my Beachbody Diet plan and adjust my diet.
